Lifting farmers spirts
06 Dec 2007

Port Stephens Examiner

Tis the season of giving and Pacific Dunes Golf Club is getting into the spirit of the festive season by helping drought affected families.  This is the second year the club will host its annual Christmas “giving tree” where visitors, staff and club members can donate presents which will go to the Aussie Helpers Charity Organisation.

Aussie Helpers is a group which helps lift the spirits of farmers and their families in drought stricken areas.  Dunes general manager Peter Davies urged people to put a present under the tree.  “The Giving Tree provides locals with the opportunity to share the spirit of Christmas with those less fortunate,” Mr Davies said.  “Many outback families have been financially crippled by the drought and are in desperate need of support.”

Gifts of all sizes, for all ages are to be left unwrapped underneath the tree. Aussie Helpers will then match each gift with a suitable recipient.  Kylie Davies from Pacific Dunes said ideal presents were things that people could pamper themselves with such as smelling soaps and luxury items.  The tree was set up at the club on Saturday and it will remain there until Christmas Eve.
