Pacific Dunes Golf Operations were recently awarded $49955 under the federal Government water grants program toward the development and installation of a world first water saving measure in the form of a spill containment station for unloading and transfer of fuels and chemicals and equipment wash down bay.

The environmentally best practice system, developed in Newcastle was chosen by Pacific Dunes primarily for its water saving capability, estimated by Superintendent Craig Paget to equate to two million litres of water per year for the local course.

The closed loop system, which filters and purifies water after use for reuse through an internal storage tank, means that the water is used over and over rather than used once and then discarded,’ Craig said. ‘We use up to two hundred million litres of water annually, so any saving is important’, Craig said, in acknowledging the importance of the Government funding toward the system.

The installation at Pacific Dunes is a world first for the Newcastle based company, e-par green, company director Lee Baines told the Medowie Messenger. The company has worked closely with the golfing industry in developing the system, for which it sees a positive future.
