Super Sixes a super idea

Bored with traditional competition format? Here’s a novel idea from the team at Pacific Dunes which might be whet your appetite. Called super sixes, it breaks your round down into three distinct sets of holes, each playing a different variety of competition.

The new event will be run the first Wednesday of each month and works like this.

There are six super pin holes which have two flags on the green.

One is in a straight forward position and the other is in a challenging position. Players are required to pick four of the six holes on which they must play to the super pin. The good news is that any stableford points scored on that hole will be doubled.

There are six super tee holes in a forward position and one set on the championship tees. Again, four of the six holes must be played from the super tees with double point on offer.

And finally there are six super power holes. The super power holes turn the rules upside down completely. Players are encouraged to “tee it up and let it rip” with all hazards and wayward shots being brought back to the middle of the fairway with no penalty.

This applies to all roughs, bunkers and water hazards where(at the point of entry) the player can play from the fairway with no penalty. This is designed to encourage players to take out the driver, go for the water carry or fire at the par 5 without risk of penalty shots. Again, these holes will attract double points on the four nominated holes.

There will also be the option of a nine hole event with three each of the “super” holes in play. Players will be required to select two of the three holes for “super play” with double stableford points applying on those holes.

The format has already proved popular with one event staged and the club receiving excellent feedback.  The cost is $50 per person including 18 holes and competition fee with carts available at $15 per person.  There are prizes on offer for first, second and third in stableford points as well as NTP’s on the on the 5th and 17th and a NTP 2nd shot on the first and sixth. Long drive is up for grabs on the 7th.
